Sortie Points Tutorial

Gameplay within Steel Battalion: Line of Contact is based around the concept of Sortie Points. The number of Sortie Points available determine a number of strategic elements within a mission. Each mission/map starts with a default of 70 Sortie Points per player, which is then modified based on the rank of the participating players, the VT generation selected by each pilot, and any Tactician optional parts which are selected during the VT loadout configuration.

The chart below details the modification to Sortie Points by player rank.

Rank Sortie Point Bonus
 Corporal
 Sergeant
 Staff Sergeant +2
 Sergeant Major +4
 Warrant Officer +6
 Second Lieutenant +10
 First Lieutenant +12
 Captain +14
 Major +20
 Lieutenant Colonel +22
 Colonel +24

The generation of a VT selected by a player to take into the mission can increase the Sortie Point for the mission as follows:

 VT Generation  Sortie Point Bonus
 First
 Second +30
 Third +50

Equipping the Tactician optional part has the following modification effect:

Optional Part Level  Sortie Point Bonus
 Tactician Level 1 +10
 Tactician Level 2 +20
 Tactician Level 3 +30

Certain missions have additional Sortie Point bonuses depending on special objectives or attacking/defending side advantage.

Session Setting
Effect and Definition
Sortie Cost
This sets a ceiling on the maximum number of Sortie Points available to a player to "purchase and respawn" VTs with. The Sortie Point setting is primarily used by the room host to limit the number of resorties per-pilot for a given VT type. The effect of the Sortie Points setting can be immediately seen in the pre-sortie VT selection menu. Since each VT has a specific Sortie Point value attached to it, the maximum number of possible VT sorties are shown to the right-bottom of the selection interface. For example, if the Sortie Points were set at 150 (default) then a player would only have one sortie available for an Earthshaker (100 points) but up to three resorties available for Jaralaccs C (50 points). If a pilot uses up their available Sortie Point limit they would be removed from the mission (and it would count as a LOSS for the pilot even if their team ultimately wins).
Strategic Points by Factors
Multiplier
Applies a multiplier to the initial Sortie Point calculation of the combined team Sortie Point value. Example: the initial sortie cost for a player (70) bringing a 2nd generation Prominence M1 VT (+30) to a match with a rank of Second Lieutentant (+10) would be 110 sortie points by default. With a Strategic Points by Factors (multiplier) of 3.5 the players' contribution towards the team Sortie Point value would then be 385. The Strategic Points by Factors (multiplier) setting can be used by room hosts to offset the impact of lost bases, destruction objectives or VTs. This can allow for longer matches and more of a Sortie Points "buffer" for each team.
