Testing & Results

This section will deal with some very detailed specifications on both weapons and VTs. The information presented here is not necessary to know to successfully play Steel Battalion: Line of Contact, but finally having it explains a number of questions and intriguing mysteries about the game.

The content presented here is intended for those seeking to understand the game dynamics on a deeper level and to appreciate the amazing level of detail the developers put into [its] design.

Credit for those who have participated in testing sessions and/or provided information are given here.

Torque Performance In Adverse Terrain

The torque rating for Vertical Tanks has a direct effect on their performance on adverse terrain, particularly water crossings and climbing grades.
Weight Loadout Effects on Turning Performance

Vertical Tank turning efficiency is adversely affected when the VT is loaded past the STD (standard) weight allocation for the model. Testing has been completed for all VTs for all available loadout configurations. Additional testing will be done to determine the effect of Additional Mount and Advanced Mount optional parts.

Vertical Tank Rise Time (Stand Up)

Vertical Tanks rise to a standing position after having tipped or been melee attacked. This rise time varies depending on the model of the VT. Measurements for each VT type and sub-groupings based on animation are presented.

Platform and Leg Durability

Vertical Tank durability ratings are based on armour points, which are equavalent to damage points inflicted by weaponry. The tables on the detail page list the exact number of durability points for each VT available, as well as the leg specific durability (for capture damage estimation purposes).

Vertical Tank Distance Modifier Chart

Some Vertical Tanks have armour characteristics which alter the effective distance of weapons fired against them. This "distance modifier" decreases the "in-range" distance of the majority of weapons.

Vertical Tank Acceleration Results

Vertical Tank speed testing, including maximum speeds over normal terrain and paved surfaces, with and without override enabled. Speeds given for each gear with additional review notes.

Weapon Data Summary

Although weapons are covered in detail on the weapon information page, there are a number of additional specifications which have been compiled. More testing is currently being finalised to add to the existing knowledge base.

Guided Missile Testing

AS-MIS and PZ-MIS are the workhorses of the guided direct file missile class. Although relatively slow and easily defeated with chaff, these missiles can be very effective if used en-masse or in combination with other guided weapons. Reference the attached data sheet for velocity testing and additional information about this weapon.
