Melee weapons are "hit prioritised" from top to bottom. Note that the Stun Rod will override all hit priorities as long as it makes contact.

Melee weapon damage values are "per contact unit of time" which is a factor of 40 per second of contact, with the maximum possible deployment time being 3 seconds. Maximum values are given below:

Melee Weapon Range to Damage

As in the above image, greater damage will be inflicted if the melee attack is witheld until very close range, although the knock-down effect will still be achieved at longer distances.
