Creating a New Pilot

The first time a player logs into XBox Live within Steel Battalion: Line of Contact, they may choose to play in either Campaign or Free Mission mode. The following example assumes Campaign mode play, Free Mission omits the selection of a faction alignment option.

01. The player is prompted to enter a name for their pilot profile of up to 13 characters. Both upper and lower case letters are supported, as well as numbers and standard punctuation. This is the name will which be displayed to other pilots in sortie rooms and as the hostname for player hosted sessions.

02. Next, the player is required to select a Nationality, a Gender, and enter their age. The initial age selection determines the default Professional Name for the profile.

03. The player then selects a pilot image avatar. The images available are based on the gender selection in the previous step. Only preset avatars are available, there are no customisation or user file loading options.

04. Finally, the player is required to select the starting faction (Campaign Mode only). Depending on the current Turn in Campaign, there may be various options available. By default, Hai Shi Dao and Pacific Rim Forces are available at all times. Right Brothers are available starting in the Third Turn, and Jaralaccs Mercenaries are available in the Fifth Turn. The game maintains a numerical player balance by preventing a pilot from joining a faction which is already overstaffed when compared to other available factions.

When the pilot profile data entry is complete, a Military Identity Card is displayed confirming all of the player selections, as well as the starting rank of Corporal and a default starting supply points (5000).

After the pilot has created their profile, they must purchase Vertical Tanks prior to joining a mission session (not required for Free Mission mode play). The supply points initially given only allow a new pilot to purchase a limited number of first generation Vertical Tanks. Supply points gained through participation in Campaign Missions allow a pilot to purchase additional and more advanced VT models.

The ability to purchase Vertical Tank models is specific to given faction. VTs may be traded between factions through Chat Rooms or between team mates on the mission summary/debriefing screen after a Mission.

Please see the Vertical Tank Information page for detailed information regarding each model, availability, and factional alignment.
