Although no one ever doubted the resourcefulness of the Right Brothers, their production capabilities were limited throughout their separatist campaign. Not surprisingly, Right Brothers defense suppliers were not opposed to purchasing from third party Vertical Tank producers. Realising that their
Yellow Jacket model was seriously hampered when faced with open terrain combat, the Right Brothers jumped at the chance to acquire the Siegeszug design from Oktaeder.
Oktaeder was one of the first non-politically aligned companies to produce Vertical Tanks for the world market. Initially a developer of heavy mining and excavation equipment, Oktaeder was able to apply their knowledge of high performance hydrolics and precision German engineering to produce an extraordinarily durable Vertical Tank platform.
The Siegeszug was built to be a complement to the
Yellow Jacket during flatland engagements. Mounting several missile options, as well as a deployable defensive shield, the Siegeszug is a fearsome opponent at any distance.
The Siegeszug saw its first combat action in March of 2085 during the second Xian Feng Tian plains offensive against Hai Shi Dao city defenses. Although some outlying suburbs were captured in the action, the position could not be held due to insecure supply lines. Siegeszug units maintained a defensive line during the withdrawal, the result of which was no losses for the retreating forces.
Field Notes
"The object of war is not to die for your country,
but to make the other bastard die for his."
The Siegeszug is a well rounded general assault VT that is comfortable in nearly any outdoor combat environment. It suffers a bit from a rather poor acceleration performance that doesn't seem to fit with its given torque specs. Getting a Siegeszug up to speed can be a task, especially on uneven ground. The only reliable method is to activate Override, which just chews through fuel at an alarming rate. In combat, the extra durability gives the Siegeszug a definite edge over its
Yellow Jacket hangarmates. With the Shield Binder deployed, the Siegeszug can deflect incoming rounds that would normally cause damage, and even repel Rail Gun shots launched from within the edge of their effective range. As with all Shield Binder fitted VTs, deploying the Shield Binder disables the ability to fire primary weapons.
This model seems to be about as available in the supply bin as the
Prominence M2 is for the PRF. I've fought alongside Siegeszugs numerous times in Campaign and they have proven to be very effective. Most players seem to equip the SL-GM and the 355-RF, making for a very proficient middle distance fighter. Its a pity that the game designers didn't give the Siegeszug howitzer or Rail Gun A option as this would have helped balance the games' VTs a bit more and made the Right Brothers a more attractive faction choice.
